Ackronyms on birth certificates

I have 1887 birth ceritifcate for a girl born in Gilcrux.

In the "Where and when born" column it says Gilcrux R.S.B.

At the right hand side of the register entry the is written "one G.L.C" (I think).

Does anyone know what these initials mean?

Actually I think it might be "R.S.D" in column 1 - the writing is very curly!

I would imagine that G L C stood for the Greater London Council.

Unless it's not London of course

I think there is probably a correction made on the certificate with the number 1 next to it and that the
Registrar's initials are G L C.

RSD can be either Rural Sanitary District or Registrar's Sub District.

The Greater London Council was not set up until 1963

Yes, that makes sense as the mother's name was corrected. He'd put "Mary Jane Gray [Gray then crossed out] Bowe, formely Gray".

Any alteration to the certificate certainly would be accompanied by a note in the margin, so that looks very likely.

Also, apart from the date, Gilcrux is in Cumbria, not that far from the scottish border, so almost as far as you can get from London.
