Reading Free BDM record.
« on: Saturday 09 January 10 12:17 GMT (UK) »
On the marriage record of Giles Keeley on Free BDM, at Shipston on Stour, March 1848, vol.11 pg 401, his wifes first name appears 3 times, all different. Her last name is Johnson.

Could someone please take a look and explain what it means to me?

Many thanks.
Grimes Patterson Keeley -- Warwickshire
Hollis Cooper Solomons Hubbard Moses Merrott -- Bethnal Green, Hackney
Dunlop Grimes -- NSW

The transcribers were having trouble reading it - the 3 attempts are shown thus:

Marriages Mar 1848

JOHNSON  Eu[tl]i Abi    Shipston on S  11 401
Johnson  Uh Abi     Shipston S.  11 401
JOHNSON  Wi Abi     Shipston S.  11 401
KEELEY  Giles     Shipston on Stour  11 401

Hi Ringarosy,

It just means that the original isn't easy to decipher and several transcribers had different guesses at her name.

I read it as Uti Abi. First letter should defo be a U given it's between T and W

(Sorry Mort - I'd saved and cropped the image, so I posted anyway)

In the 1851 census, she is Eutiabi.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Looking at the image....
the image I looked at is different from Tati's one ???

I see the 2nd forename  as Abi - that's pretty clear.
The first forename looks to be 4 letters long   & definitely begins with an E - it's the same capital E as in an Esther, then  an Ellen, then a number of Elizabeths written above her.

And while it could be specks on the image, it does look like the last letter iof the 1st name is an 'i' formed the same as the i in "Abi".  Also the 3rd letter looks like the t's in Elizabeth and Esther

The original index page  is arranged in Alpha-order by surname and then by Forename.

She's  listed after an  Esther and before a Frances, then comes   a Frederick James & a George...  Me, I probably would have transcribed her, based on the image, as Eati Abi or Euti Abi or maybe Enti Abi  ;D  ;D  ;D

Cheers

Yes, it appears under E and also U.

The E one appears on FreeBMD in Bold font so it means two transcribers agree on what it said.
The U one has been transcribed differently by two people, so does not appear bold but ought to be between Thomas and William alphabetically.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.
