Hi Sandy
Thank you for looking into this so promptly! Not sure I can add that much but details below will demonstrate some foundation for these marriages I think. Any pointers would be good.
Thomas Paine and Martha marriage about 1800 - both lived long lives so luckily for me they are in the 1851 and 1861 censuses living in Harpole. Martha's birthplace given as Wootten, Thomas variously Brington, Great Brington - Nobottle. Thomas seems to have been baptised at Brington in 1777. (Their first child, William, born Harpole 1801). I have not found a marriage in Harpole or Wootten but do please check.
My suggested dates for the other three marriages are based on baptisms of children:
John Paine and Anne marriage about 1767 - six children baptised at Brington, first John 1768
Henry Paine and Alice marriage about 1739 - seven children baptised at Brington, first John 1740
Thomas Paine and Elizabeth Ball marriage about 1700 - five children baptised at Brington, first Elizabeth 1701/2. I think Thomas was buried at Brington in 1712 but I have not found a baptism yet. It is noted in one of his children's baptisms that he is a "Labourer of Nas."
I know you do not have the registers for the period of this last marriage but do you know what place "Nas." would be?
This is a new line for me - with all these baptisms in the same place, it is surprising the marriages are so elusive but then again that's family history for you!
