Experimenting with negs
« on: Wednesday 13 January 10 01:12 GMT (UK) »
They're oversized, and I'm trying to trick the scanner... I've tried before, not very good results...

This is scanned at 1200, and I didn't run it through Paint, which is the only software I have that will invert colours, because Paint reduces everything to 96.

Could someone please turn it into b&w, and maybe get rid of the oval on it, which is from the backlighting?

That's me on the doorstep, I think :)

Thanks to anyone who gives this a go.

Cheers,
China

Wow, Images...it's wonderful, thank you so much.

I think it was about 1958 or so...hard to believe it was half a century ago. We were very happy in that house.

Again, many thanks to you.

Cheers,

China

Why did you put that thread on ToTb if you're putting the negs up on here as well - seems a bit odd to me  :-\

I've just done some scans on various sized negs. Just put them down on the scanner bed with the emulsion (dull) side facing up. Put some acetate or whatever on top and make sure they are in tight contact with the scanner bed. Then scan as normal but at a  high dpi (I did 1200). No need for shinning lights or anything. They just scanned fine. I thought that's what I'd done but needed to check  :)

Well mine were all fine. Must be your scanner model - mine's a V350  :)

The Epson v350 is a photo scanner with a light source built in to the lid where the OP probably has just a normal flatbed scanner so has to shine a light on the negative on the platen (scanner bed) to get an image.

Hi Gordon

I used it in ordinary (reflective) mode not negative.  I've also done this with my old AgfaScan.

I'm wondering if China selected 'negative' rather than 'reflective'

Been doing this for years and years and years  8)

Gadget,

My old HP was useless for negatives.  Just wouldn't do a good job.

I have a Epson 4990 Photo that is just brilliant though.  Never tried it without the light source though.
