1871 census-surlingham norfolk
« on: Tuesday 15 March 05 21:44 GMT (UK) »
I know my great great grandfather was the innkeeper at coldham hall surlingham norfolk from 1875 till 1890 i cant seem to find where he lived before that or how many other children he had other than my great grandfather, his name was Edward Browne and his wifes name was Martha,i know round about the same time he was a corn merchant, fishing boat owner and a ferry boat proprietor. any help would be much appreciated because i am fast running out of hair to pull out since I've hit this dead end. cheers

Chris Re your PM I just thought I would try 1851 and c what shows up alas it appears your Edward is with his Widowed Grandmother and Widowed Mother!

HO107/1821 Folio 792 Page 4
Ashwellthorpe Norfolk

CHAPMAN Ann Head 47 Widow b Forncett St Peter Farmer of 30 Acres Employing 3 Men
CHAPMAN Thomas Son 24 Unm b Ashwellthorpe Farmers Son
CHAPMAN Sarah Ann Dau 19 Unm b Ashwellthorpe
CHAPMAN John Son 18 Unm b Ashwellthorpe Farmers Son
CHAPMAN Maria Dau 14 Unm b Ashwellthorpe Scholar
CHAPMAN Ann Dau 12 b Ashwellthorpe Scholar
BROWNE Elizabeth Dau 22 Widow b Ashwellthorpe
BROWNE Edward Grandson 3 b Ashwellthorpe

Now there r 2 other Edward Brownes in Ashwellthorpe Poss grandfather and Ggrandfather  ;) .....Let me know if u want them too Edward 54 Farmer and Edward 82 Retired Farmer Surely they must connect  ??? (Certainly interesting when u r talking the sale of land....Other Heads in the Parish R Thomas 47 Farmer and heads outside the parish but born there r William 49 a Miller in Burgh  Then there is a 21 year old Edward  ag Lab Unwed son of Richard 51 ag Lab  who r in Forcett St Peter....So U R deff suffering Edward Overload...LOL....Cheers Kris  :D

PS While the Server was down I have Just tried FreeBMD and alas the marriage nor the Birth of Edward appear, I Also  Tried IGI and alas only a submitted entry no doubt gleaned from this 1851 entry I have provided...Edward b 1849 Father Browne mother Elizabeth Chapman.....U May need to go to your Records centre  or alternatively 1837 Online and look for the birth and purchase the cert to get his fathers name or try to find the Marriage of Elizabeth Chapman By age I would suggest Quite Close to Edwards Birth (Certainly wouldnt expect it to be more that 2 Years Prior).....When U find an Elizabeth Chapman Married in Depwade about that time then Look for a Browne marriage in Depwade with the same Ref ....All The Best With it.....Kris

Chris

I am hoping you might still, after all this time,be using this site as we are almost certainly related. Edward is also my great great grandfather. I am descended from his son Charles.  Please give me a shout if you are still researching.
