MACKAY/McKay Help please!!

Can anyone PLEASE find me some record of my gggrandfather's birth? Lauchlin MACKAY b 1848.     He married Georgina ROSS b 1846  Tain    They married in Edinburgh 1868...     He has given both Rogart and Tain as birth counties on different census...and I can't find any trace of a Lauchlin anywhere...he had a brother Angus I believe and also a sister Jessie  (she appears on a census in Liverpool 1901)  My ggf Joseph Bailey MACKAY b1890 immigrated out here to NZ
Any suggestions on where to look now for some record Lauchlin's  birth...I 'm stuck...and want to know his parents!!  Many thanks...

Hi Azmara

Lauchlan's parents were Hugh MacKay policeman deceased and Margaret MacKay m/s
Gunn. Both Lauchlan and Georgina give their age as 21. Witnesses were Barbra Ross and William MacKay. Georgina's parents were David Ross carter and Barbara Ross m/s Ross.
This info is from their marriage certificate.

A quick look at the OPR'S for Dornoch started in 1833 gives

Hugh MacKay married to Margaret Gunn Feb 21 1835. In the OPR'S there are usually no
details given like you find beginning 1855.
