William IV Public House, Rye
« on: Thursday 21 January 10 14:18 GMT (UK) »
I have ancestors living two doors away from the William IV Public House, Rye on the 1871 Census.
Is this Pub still standing? has it be renamed or just a house now?
I would be grateful for any suggestions

I have guessed its not longer a pub but in order to track down where my family lived I need to know the location of the pub in the 1870's.

Hi

Maybe a phone call  to Rye Tourist Information Centre would be an idea.

They should hopefully be able to help.

Just had a look on 1891 and there are only 2 pubs in CP street- CP arms & Kings Arms. If any one has access to 1871 for Rye and can look up Henry Elliott he was landlord of the Kings Arms 1870-90s and then go from household to household. What surname are you after? The original sheets for 1881 ought to have house numbers on

It is interesting that it doesn't appear on the dead pubs site:

http://deadpubs.co.uk/SussexPubs/Rye/rye.shtml

Can I suggest that you pm KEVAN with any details that you find out.
