Joseph William Chambers was an uncle to my paternal grandfather. His birth was registered in the first quarter of 1873 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. I heard a story from my paternal grandfather that he had committed incest with one of his sisters, and there had been a child born as a result of the affair. It was alleged that my great x2 grandparents had raised the boy - named Ernest, born 16 November 1893; no father named on certificate - as their own, and banished Joseph to Canada.
I found a UK WWI Service record on Ancestry for their brother Albert, and as his parents were both dead, his record listed all his siblings as next of kin, with ages and address details, dated 7 October 1919. The record is available
here for those of you with access. It appears to me that Joseph's address was given as 747 Mears Street, Victoria, British Columbia. Looking on Google Earth shows me that there is indeed a Meares Street in Victoria... so I was wondering first of all if someone could try to look Joseph up on the 1920?? Canadian Census for me, so I could see who he was living with etc.
The other thing that popped up today on Ancestry was a Hint detailing what appears to be a Canadian WWI service record for someone who may or may not be Joseph - but again as I only have UK access I can't check this out - could someone also help with this?
Thanks all
Katie
