Hello Melanie, there isn't many Ellis names list for Offaly---but I have noticed---Trade directory 1931 for Birr---W.Ellis is a victuallers---then the LDS site has a few list mainly from around Tullamore & Parsontown, Griffiths Valuation has a few list for the parish's of Killaderry & Kilbride + in the 1911 census there are only a few & they all seem to have been born either in Dublin or England + there are a handful over in the next County--Westmeath maybe they would also be worth checking out too.Regards Nipy

I may have replied on other topic by mistake.
My Ellis's were C of I from Clara.  Annie, b. 11/11/1842 is my 3rd great grandmother, daughter of George.
I have not done any extensive research as their parish records are gone.  Did you have any family in that area?

Hi MacGillean,

Yes, I do have family listed there, I believe.  My ggrandfather was John Ellis, b. 1842 in Co Offaly.  He married Belinda (Bella, Belenda - according to different sources) and had 5 children, 4 girls and a boy, George, my grandfather.  I am unable to piece together too many at this point but I am sure they are related.  Possibly siblings?

I will keep going.... you might like to try the irish census online (google) and you will see the listings.  It makes great reading.

In the meantime, I will be in touch if I hit the jackpot.

All the best.

Interesting you have a John/George connection.  If your John named a son George it would indicate he had a father or uncle George which would mean John and my Annie were either siblings or 1st cousins.
I went through Griffiths Valuation from 1854 and got records of some Ellis land holdings.  There was a John in Spallanstown, Kilbride parish. Bernard Ellis in Raheen, Kilbride, and aThomas in Philipstown, Killaderry parish.
I believe I found through some commercial directoris that Thos Ellis was the postmaster in philipstown c 1850s.
Unfortunately Kilbride's church records were destroyed in the four courts fire of 1922 but the tullamore-kilbride church's registers partly survive which might be successful for you.

They may be in book form in the representative church body library in Dublin or in local custody.
I was stuck looking in Kings Co at a dead end for a long time until I found my ancestors in dublin a generation back all because an ancestors cousin went to Trinity college.
I will try to find out more info about Killaderry parish also as Thos may be a sibling of John.
