Yes but they are in two different places.

Is it specifically the castle you are interested in or something to do with the Pembrokeshire/Carmarthenshire estate?

If you can give some context to your inquiry I can probably point you in the right direction.

Hi Dolly

Is it the History side of Picton Castle or the Families who lived there you are interested in.

I have quite a bit of info on both as i have traced my Phillipps line back to there.

Picton Castle and the Families are well documented at the National Library of Wales.

Also visited Picton Castle a few times.

Hi

Thanks for the replies - I have ancestor born there ( according to family search) Thomas Forsyth 1819  - I assume his parents worked at the castle .

Cheers
Dolly.

Good afternoon, Dolly

Firstly, The bulk of the Picton Castle estate records are held at the National Library of Wales (NLW).

There are 3 NLW catalogues for the records, the one most likely to contain relevant records for you is:

http://isys.llgc.org.uk/isysquery/irl4e53/53/doc

As you will see, however, most of the employee records are 20th century in origin. However, you may well find the family as tenants on the estate. There is a reasonable run of estate rentals listed in this catalogue from around this period that will prove this one way or the other. Look at the list starting RA1.

There are several earlier rentals listed in the second catalogue. Search for "rental" on the following:

http://isys.llgc.org.uk/isysquery/irl4e53/52/doc

Rentals will show how long a person rented a property from the estate for, providing useful family history info as to why tenants' names change eg death, poverty etc.

Secondly, there is a collection of 19th century Picton Castle estate documents held at the Pembrokeshire Record Office. These are mostly deeds/leases so less likely to refer to your ancestor. However this may be of interest if you locate your ancestors' names in the rentals as leases may survive for the property. At this time in Pembrokeshire most properties were let on a 3-life basis (rather than a term of years) and leases will list the names, relationships to the tenant and ages of these 3 lives. All good info. There are plenty of 19th century leases in the first NLW Picton Castle link above as well.

Hope that helps

Jon

Hi Dolly.

I note from Familysearch the info regarding Thomas was submitted & not extracted.

It maybe an idea to have a search done at Pembroke Record Office in Haverforwest for Thomas`s baptisum.Last time i did it was £15 an hour.
Well worth every penny.
If they find info, where possible they print off & send you.If they a time to spare any other little snippits they may find.

Good Luck with your search
