Marriage 1885 - Eliza Jane BARNES
« on: Monday 25 January 10 13:47 GMT (UK) »
I have found a marriage in Berkhampstead Reg Dist Sept quarter 1885 for Eliza Jane Barnes. Could somebody look up parish records June to September of that year. In particular I'm trying to identify Eliza's father but any information would be good.

My best guess is the she married in Tring because she worked as a maid for the De Rothschild family at Tring Park. Her husband David Worth also worked for the De Rothschilds as a Stableman.

Two other parishes that she may have married were Northchurch where her family lived or Berkhampstead itself.

Thanks

To look up a marriage in parish records - you have to know which church it took place in.  Without that info - somebody would have to search every church for the 3 month period which is time consuming

The Berkhampstead Reg district covered a number of parishes

I had assumed the three parishes to be Tring Northchurch and Berkhampstead. Tring being the obvious one as that's where the lady lived. Obviously I wouldn't expect anybody to trawl through any more than that.

Was there only one church in each of those areas?

As far as I'm aware yes. IGI shows only three, one for each place. Why would there be more? Perhaps you know something that I don't. It's interesting that Tring marriages are recorded in the IGI up until about 1900 anyway. Eliza Jane doesn't appear. If the IGI has all the Tring marriages for the period concerned then that leaves just two parishes for 15 weeks each in 1885  to research. Say 10 minutes. Sorry if this is considered too onerous. I certainly would not expect the researcher to look in other parishes.
