help me find william linn please!

I have a 1851 census from Scotland stating that 
William Linn was 8 years old and born in Irvine Ayrshire.
his parents were Robert who is 60 in the census and his mother is Agnes aged 54 (I think)and both born in Ireland.
I have tried searching in Scotlandspeople but am unable to trace him.
I am trying to find his birth details.
any help will be greatly appreciated.

What information are you looking for so your previous entry of 20th November doesn't have duplicate searches.

Unfortunately that period was pre civil registration (1855) which means you are reliant on either the OPR's from the Church of Scotland or the RC registers which are available on Scotlands People.

Neither of these is complete - the Church of Scotland went through a number of splits and the records of these secessionist churches are not available online. The RC records are not yet complete.
