index reference?
« on: Wednesday 27 January 10 14:49 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Apologies if I'm in the wrong place, I'm not very computer savvy and am not sure how to order a copy of the death cert of my relative over the internet, it's the first time I've tried to do this.  My relative died in 1892, on the G.R.O. form it says the index reference has to be given for pre 1900 deaths. Would some kind soul tell me what this is and how I go about finding the index ref. Any help much appreciated.

Hi Pencan,

The GRO reference is the reference that you find when you search FreeBMD (or the complete GRO index) for an event.

To order from the GRO, you'll need the quarter in which the event occurred, the registration district, the volume number and the page number

Can you spot your relative's death on here?
