SALMON in Lambton, Ontartio

Spencer SALMON (b. about 1805) and Betty BUMBY then BASTOW (b. about 1804 in England) married in Lamton, Ontario in 1875 when they were both about 70 years old. (Previously, Betty lived with her first husband, James Bastow, in St. Clair, Michigan)

Can anyone out there help locate death information for either Spencer or Betty?

A possible for Betty... There's a death for a Betty Solomon on 16 Aug 1889 in Sombra, Lambton, Ontario. She was 85 years, 1 month and 14 days old and born in Yorkshire, England. The informant was a Rev Jewitt. There's no space on the form for information like next of kin or who the deceased's parents were unfortunately.

I haven't seen any possibles for Spencer yet.

Hi Holly,

There is an Elizabeth Selman (wife of Spencer Selman) buried in Wilkesport Cemetery, Sombra Township, Lambton County.
This Elizabeth was born in 1804, BUT.............  she died in 1872. Spencer's first wife, I guess??  No mention of a grave for Spencer, but there are quite a few other Selman's buried there, including some of Spencer's children and families.

I found a few of Spencer's children on the 1881 census, haven't found Spencer or Betty though.  Spencer's son William and his wife Sarah are living in Sombra, and living with them is a James Bastow age 25, born England.

I saw the 1861 and 1871 census and Spencer was with his first wife who was named Elizabeth. Gets confusing when a man marries a woman with the same given name as his previous wife, doesn't it.

Betty was living in Michigan with her first husband, James Bastow, sometime prior to 20 June 1854.  (This date is found in an old letter).

Children (from James and a previous wife, Mary) living with Betty and James in Yorkshire in the 1841 English Census:

John Bastow, age 12 (b. circa 1829)
Eliza Bastow, age 10 (b. circa 1831)
Simeon Bastow, age 5 (b. circa 1836)
Ruben Bastow, age 3 (b. circa 1838)

Any chance info on their arrival (between 1841 and 1854), either to Canada or the US, is available?  

The James Bastow that LesleyG found in the 1881 Canadian Census, living with William and Sarah Selman is likely related to Betty (through her first husband), but I'm not sure how...

James was the son of Simeon and Sarah Bastow. He married Mary Shepherd on Nov 15, 1893 in Lambton County. On the marriage entry his name is written as James Barstow. At the time of his marriage he was 39 yrs old (born in England). This would put the immigration date somewhere closer to 1854 rather than 1841, for Simeon anyway.
