BUTLER of Salisbury/Fisherton Anger
« on: Thursday 28 January 10 03:19 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to figure out the family line of James Cecil Butler.  He was born approx 1816 somewhere in London and then his family (father was James Cecil Butler) moved to Salisbury.  I suspect his father was from Salisbury originally because he was a horse hair manufacturer.  There was already a horse hair manufacturer called John Butler in Salisbury by 1812 and James Cecil Butler the father joined that business.  I've checked the parish records and there were 3 James Butlers (no Cecil) born in the late 1770's and early 1780's in Salisbury.  But I can't figure out if they were related.  The father was dead before the 1841 census.
Any advice on how I can figure this out?  I'm at a dead end here.

I am overwhelmed.  All these years of searching and you have answered SO MANY QUESTIONS!!!
I am so amazed you could find them so fast.  I was thinking I'd be searching every parish record in London.  Thank you so so much.  I had suspected that Margaret's last name was Lemon because I thought I had found her sister (Mary Stebbings nee Lemon) but your work cinched it.
I think you are also spot on about the Dorset James Buttler.  That must be him and Blandford is just down the road from Salisbury.
Thank you so so so much Kris.  Wow.  I'm so excited. Now I need to get to work on the Dorset Buttlers.
Cheers,
Gertie.

Hi,

I am a descendant of James Cecil BUTLER (b 1815). I live in Australia. I am just wanting to take another step back from this James Cecil BUTLER to his father and further if possible.

I googled across this forum topic...

My questions is how, can I verify this information?

I thought that I would need the Marriage record for James Cecil BUTLER & Charlotte PRINCE, hoping that it may list James Cecil BUTLER as the father. I haven't been able to find that record  :(

Or do I just assume that baptismal record for James & John is enough and the fact that James Cecil also had a child named James Cecil...

All the dates line up as well... but I really want to verify it... what other info can i search for to verify the details...

I will list my blood line back to James Cecil BUTLER.

Adam John BUTLER (b1964)
John Trevor BUTLER (b1937)
Trevor BUTLER (b1899)
Thomas BUTLER (b1873)
Robert BUTLER (b1843)
James Cecil BUTLER (b1816)
the next step is the step i would like to make... it's exciting!!!

Hi Adam and Gertie. I’m also a defendant of James Cecil Butler! Trying to find information that confirms that they are originally a Romany family from Ireland. I believe they were travelling actors, who settled in Salisbury and had a horsehair factory.
Do you have any information? Thanks. Matt
