Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant
« on: Thursday 28 January 10 13:49 GMT (UK) »
Hi..... I am searching for a record of the marriage of John Williams & Margaret Charles which took place at Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant parish church in 1833. John  Williams was born on 12 Oct 1791 and was a minister in Llansillin, Margaret was a native of Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant. Is there anyone who has information or can access the records for me please. I am searching for John's ancestors. thank you so much

Hi Both

It's really half and half:

Quote
The parish church was on the Denbighshire side of the border; therefore the parish registers have been deposited in the Denbighshire Record Office, Ruthin.

I've got records  but not for the time covered by gower.

I've PMed Paul to see what he can come up with  :)

Correction - I have the LYM records that cover Margaret's baptism.

I think this might be Margaret but ? age:

22 Jan 1804 Margaret d/o Isaac and Margaret Charles. Isaac was a farmer and they lived at Cefn Coch

There's nothing for John Williams in either the Llansilin or LYM parish records. Do you have them on any of the censuses to check his place of birth?

Hi  again

The marriage was by licence, 16 July 1833,  so the Nat Library would have the record of it. it might give some additional information but parentage was not always given until 1837.  The witnesses were Samuel Richards and Mary Charles.

John was of Llansilin and Margaret was otp (LYM)

Dear Gadget,

thank you so much for the information.... I have now obtained a copy of the marriage record from the records office. As you say there is no record of the parents. I think I may have found Margaret Charles ancestors but John Williams is a mystery. He was a minister at Bethesda Chapel Llansilin but I don't think he was born there. I haven't any census records as they emigrated to USA in 1839! Is there anyone locally has access to history regarding the ministers at Bethesda Chapel.

Hello again gower  :)

It might be worth contacting the Llansilin Local History Society. They helped me a few years ago.

The contact info is listed on this site:

http://www.local-history.co.uk/Groups/salop.html

Scroll down to Llansilin.

Charles, Isaac, Cylynog, Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Montgomery, Farmer
  Isaac Charles : will, 1793
Could be a long shot, but this will mentions a son also named Isaac.
