Gaults and McKendrys
« on: Saturday 30 January 10 16:39 GMT (UK) »
Hi I'm looking for information on the Gault's and McKendry's of Ballycastle. I believe one of my ancestors was born there, Daniel Francis - son of Martha Gault who later married Archibald McKendry. I'm unsure if he would have been christened Gault or McKendry, but if anyone can help with any name connections that would be great thanks. Charlotte

I've moved your post from ANTRIM LOOKUP OFFERS to ANTRIM but if you could give us an idea of dates we might be able to find information or suggest where you can search next.

Charlotte,
               I cannot find a Daniel Francis Gault/McKendry birth anywhere but there is a Daniel JOSEPH McKendry shown on Ancestry Ireland (a pay site) and no father is listed. He was born in 1891. I have found what I think are Martha Gault's and Archibald McKendry's parents and if I am correct Martha was born in 1871.

Hello Charlotte,

I don't know if the following is part of your family but I have in my tree;

James Gault married Jane Logan on 19 June 1861 at Dunseverick C.O.I., Billy, Ballycastle.

One child from this union was Archibald Gault born 6 Jan. 1878 - died 3 Sept. 1967.

As your Daniel's mother was Martha Gault he isn't a direct line of my family but if you approach your research from another angle you may get lucky.

Good hunting.

Hi Guys

Thanks for your help so far. I have been sent a copy of Martha Gault and Archibald McKendry's marriage cert, but I'm struggling with the handwriting. The date is Sept 27th, but I'm unsure if the year is 1894 or 1897. Can anybody please tell me if there is a record that states the year and the location? I believed it to be Ballycastle, but the location on the marriage cert doesn't read that, although I'm struggling with what it does say. It does state a James Gault as a witness, so it could potentially all fit together nicely.

I wondered if I could master a year / location of the marriage, that this would help determine a timeline for the child's birth that I know as Daniel Francis.

Many Thanks,

Charlotte

Searching for either bride or groom in civil registration district should allow you to confirm the quarter/year and registration district.
Alternately, you can post small portions of the certificate here to see if we can help with date and place.
