Hi, John,

GSP no longer market that software - I was hoping to find a trial version that would work on Vista, temporarily, but no such luck.

I think your easiest option is to find someone with an operating system that your disks will run on, and extract the information to a Gedcom file for use on your machine.

Failing that, you may be able to open the files with Notepad, and "read " the information, but that will probably take as long as inputting from scratch.

Sorry.

You need to find someone who still uses Windows XP and get them to install the program temporarily on their PC and then import your .gft files.

I hope your old program can create a gedcom file because that is really what you need it to do.  If you can create a gedcom file then it can be imported into any program on any Windows platform.

Hi

If anyone is reading the parallel topic on .gft files with Annette?

The converted files look good to me.

I did pm John but as yet no reply.
Offer still stands.

Regards
Ray

I can confirm that Rays conversion from GFT to Gedcom  works fine for me.
I`m having a few issues with PAF5 but will ask for advice  in another thread.

Thanks

Hi Ray,

I also have a gft file that needs converting.

Any chance I can send it to you?

How do I pm on this system?

Thanks

Michael

One problem with these files is that the same extension (.gft) was used by all four versions of GSP Family Tree but files written by later versions cannot be read by earlier versions. Indeed, v1 was a totally different program from the later versions (such as FTM 2008 onwards is completely different from earlier versions).

As others have said, the conversion route is to create a Gedcom file for use with the chosen alternative product.
