No worries.... there is an Andrew JOHNSON on the 1911, born about 1870 and in Grimsby Linc.  Also in the house is Elizabeth Agnes aged 41, George William aged 17, James Alfred aged 15, Agnes Clementine aged 2mths and William aged 43.

Cheers

Yes that is Andrew George Johnson and his family. I have 2 branches of the family with extant members but no one knows what happened to Andrew from Sweden.

Andrew snr could have died at sea or he could have done a runner and forged a new life in a new place.... this might account for him not being on the Census....??

Following your thread I am surprised that the name has been shown in an Anglised version throughout, i.e. Johnson, Johnston. Have you tried looking for a Johansen etc. a Scandanavian version?

His name was definately anglicanised as evidence my the Marriage certificate. Is should not be surprising him taking on an Anglicanised name according to the Federation of Genealogy Societies, Sweden who have an interesting paper on emigrating citizens. The other evidence comes from the family. Two branches both say he changed his name when he migrated to the UK. Also he was listed on the SS Bradford as Andrew Johnson.
As both husband and wife disappeared my feeling is they have went to Sweden.

May be worth looking in Swedish censuses if available then, but I would guess his surname may have reverted once he went back, however you could perhaps have a search made on her Christian names and place of birth.

I have got what I suspected is they are were not in England. I have referred him to Federation of Genealogy Societies to see how they can help. Swedish genealogy is different. I doubt that Rootschat has any Swedish national on board and I feel this is the wrong area for that.
