Got my certs today and I am in luck. It has the Regiment on it. But I need a bit of help translating!

I have not figured out how to place insert so I will copy out as best.
Can any one tell me what the Regiment is? -

Profession - Private 88 C.R. Regt
Address - ?Cenmore Barracks - don`t think this is right!

It also says -
Married RC Pro Cathedral of St Nicholas. What does Pro mean?

Thanks again

I'd say that's Renmore barracks

see this link for details on the history of St. Nicolas, (RC) Galway : http://places.galwaylibrary.ie/history/chapter28.html

(Pro-Cathedral is a generally a temporary Cathedral)

C.R. is probably Connaught Rangers (think this possibility was mentioned earlier in the thread) - see here for 88th Regiment:

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks for your promt replies.

Yes, you did mention Connaught Rangers, Shane. Probably an intelligent guess! :)

Thanks for the links aghadowey and Shane.

Off to study them now.

If you go to Galway, please try to visit St Nicholas Church in Galway City, where there is the banner and the flag of the Connaught Rangers, and the museum where there is currently an exhibition about Galway and the wars of Empire.

Can't remember how to do it now! but shall see if I can post a photo.

No, didn't work:

Oh well.
Both are under 400 KB now. Maybe I'll try later.
