Trying to find information on Frank Hicks and Rose Ann Hicks possibly in Toronto after 1921.  I have information about Frank in the Canadian Army 1916 to 1919 bu nothing after his return to Canada in 1919.  Rose his wife from England came to Canada in 1921 with an address to where she was going in Toronto.  Any help appreciated.

Rose Hicks travelled back to England arriving 21 Oct 1934 on the Ausonia from New York to Halifax/Plymouth.  She was 41, bound for 69 Chancellor Rd Hammersmith.

Her return to Canada was on the Ascania from Southampton to Quebec arriving 19 Nov 1934.  She was 41, b. London, previously been in Canada from July 1921 to Oct 1934.  Address was 319 Greenwood Ave. Toronto, husband Frank of same address.

There was a stillborn child born to Annie Turner and Frank Hicks on 14 May 1923 at 105 Oak Street Toronto.  Buried St. Johns cemetery, undertaker J.A. Jumphrey of 463 Church St.  because this birth involved a death there is a public record of it.  If you are interested in information on this couple probably the best source would be the pay site of the Toronto Star - Pages of the Past as birth, marriage and death records for this couple would be covered under Ontario privacy laws.

Another source would be the Toronto Library - Ask a Librarian feature.  They will take email enquiries and look up names or addresses in their city directories.

Many thanks.  Do you know if Frank went with her?  Where can I find the passenger lists?

On this sailing she was by herself and I don't see anything for Frank.  This information was taken from ancestry.ca records and not all passenger lists survived.   Ancestry only has incoming lists for Canada until 1934 although their UK arrivals are up until 1960.

FindMyPast (a pay site - http://www.findmypast.co.uk/home.jsp) has outgoing UK passengers lists from 1890 to 1960. You might be able to find later sailings there if she or they returned to England for visits.

Do you have confirmed dates of birth for Rose and Frank?  Where did they live prior to emigration?  Where were their families living - looking for addresses they may have returned to during visits.  The information might help track them down in the passenger lists.  Right now there are too many possibilities on FindMyPast.

The problem I have is in Canada.  Frank was born in Liverpool and I have his birth details.  He served with the CEF from 1916 to 1919 but little after he returned to Canada in December 1918.  Rose Ann Hicks (nee Turner) was born in London came to Canada in 1921 on a Government paid passage and returned to England twice in 1934 and 1960.  I know they were living in Toronto in 1923 and 1934 but not were they were living in 1960.  I need to find the family which they may have had in Canada but this is proving difficult.  Any help in this matter will be gratefully received.

Hi Rod,

I understand you are looking for Canadian details but in order to find them in the passenger lists, I need a bit more information such as birthdates or last address in the UK (when visiting family after their immigration).  The passenger lists often contain their address in Canada and other valuable information that would help track them here.  But I can't sort through a hundred possible matches to find them - which is why this UK information is helpful to reduce the number of possible matches and highlight potential hits.  I have a sub to FindMyPast and I am willing to do a look up but I don't have time to trawl through a couple hundred "R. Hicks" or "F. Hicks" results.

Regards,
