Mark

I would imagine you got details of Henrietta's parents' from her marriage cert? I can't easily see Henrietta and David Williamson in the later censuses from 1881, when Henrietta still shows at home with mother.

Have you got these details?

Hello Monica/Mark,

The mystery deepens.  Just back off www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

1881 to 1901 there are 12 Henrietta Wilsons marrying in Scotland - none to a Williamson.
The Henrietta Wilson I/we have tracked above marrries on 24 June 1887 at 38 Portessie, Rathven, Banffshire to a David McKeddie a Master Tailor - both are aged 24.  At the time she is a domestic servant and a spinster.
Her parents are down as George James Wilson (Ship pilot deceased), and Henrietta Wilson (Miss Munro).

A further check of SP brings up no mariages for a Henrietta McKeddie to a Williamson - checked from 1887 to 2006.

Looks as though you'll have to look elsewhere Mark - what 'facts', in writing do you have about 'your' David Williamson and his marriage.

Hopefully the research we've done here will help someone who is researching this Wilson/Munro/McKeddie family.

Regards,  Steve

It looks as though this line of enquiry may have been going on for a while, and fellow rootschatter Forfarian may have helped provide some of the info that was the starting point?

So the hunt may move to England...?

That's a good find Kirsty  :) Great work Forfarian  ;)

Mark, given that Steve found a marriage for Henrietta Wilson to a David McKeddie in 1887, I would imagine a next step may be to find either a death of this David McKeddie pre 1901 or a David McKeddie by himself by the time of the 1901 census. It may be that Henrietta and David Williamson never married given that it has proved impossible as yet to find a marriage for them either in Scotland or England.

:o Just found the marriage I think....

With Kirsty reference to England and having read through Forfarian main post on the link provided, I remembered that in England, widows marry under their existing married name - unlike in Scotland for this period where a widow would marry under her maiden name.

There is this marriage showing on FreeBmd:

Marriages 3rd Qrt 1898

Henrietta McKeddie in Poplar    1c   983 - also on the page is David Williamson

This marriage date would fit well with the birth of son David who shows in the 1901 census entry Forfarian found as aged two.

The marriage parish entry at St Luke, Millwall:

David Williamson, widower, 50. Father Adam, deceased
Henrietta McKeddie, widow, 35. Father George, deceased

This also fits well with what Forfarian found regarding a possible first marriage for David Williamson.
