Clare,Next to Tamlaght Tyrone
« on: Thursday 04 February 10 22:52 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Can anyone tell me anything about the Clare area next to Tamlaght. I have a grandfather who came from there. He was born around 1834. He was a weaver and his father William Bell was a farmer. He married Mary Ann Mckinney in 1855. She was from Leganacash her father was James a farmer. This is all the information I have on the family. I would like to know more about the Clare area.

Thank you

 ??? O'h dear.

I never  have much luck with my Irish relations  ::)

They married in Orritor church January 1855. Alexander Bell(21) a weaver from Clare and Maryann Mckinney(23) from Legnacash. His father William Bell a farmer Her father James Mckinney a weaver I think.

I thought it was next to the Orritor parish left of Kildress and by Tamlaght. I had no idea there was so many Clare's to chose from.

Thank you for looking.

Hello

I have the information not far from Tattykeel, were Alexander was born. Does that make a difference to which one of the Clares it would be?

Thankyou

There are 4 townlands in Co. Tyrone with 'tattykeel' in the name but you probably mean the townland called Tattykeel in Kildress Parish? and I see that there is a Clare in the same parish so perhaps that the one you mean?

Aghadowey, I,m afraid I have no idea. The information I posted  about the family is the only information I have about the Bell side. I recently re-found the information from the Orritor church that they sent in 2001.

I would be grateful for any advice you can offer on researching this branch of the family.

The townland of Legnacash is also in Kildress Parish so that might be the area to concentrate on at the moment.

You were looking for Clare and you got 4...you then narrowed it down to Tattykeel...and you got 4!

Well you can't say we're not generous! ;D

At least you have a reasonable amount of information with the townland which hopefully will reveal them. Do you know if others stayed in Ireland? A look at 1911 census MIGHT throw up something for Bells in same area, the 1901 census is also coming on line. I always think anything is worth a try at this stage.

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/   then just put in Surname and County.
