Johanna Olivia Robertson, b. 1863. Found her - in Sweden!

The wife of my relative Hjalmar Amadeus Lindedal (1848 - 1928, Vänersborg, Sweden) was Johanna Olivia Robertson, born somewhere in England on November 21st 1863. She married Hjalmar Amadeus on November 23rd 1881 and died in Vänersborg July 19th 1945.

I have no clues as to where in England she was from. I would be grateful for any information on her or her parents!

How did you get the date of birth ? I did a search on FreeBMD and the only Johanna Robertson showing up btw 1860 and 1866 was this one

Have also done a check of the BMD registers for 1863 and there is no Johanna on there either for that year

Thank you for your reply! I got her date of birth from the Swedish burial registry, where her "person number" is 18631121. Is it possible that her name could be spelt in different ways?

Yes, it is possible, but have checked the orginal indexes for that year and the beginning of 1864 incase her birth was registered late and there is no Robertson with a name that looks anything like johanna.

Where was she married? And do you have a copy of the certificate..if she was married in England it should have her fathers name and occupation on it which would make it easier to have a look for her in the census.

They were married in Vänersborg, Sweden. I have no information on her parents at all. The marriage date is from the Vänersborg marriage register, and unfortunately they only give the husband's occupation, and the couple's names and addresses.

Sorry, but not sure what to do with this one....I would think your best bet would be to try to get a copy of the marriage cert. I have no idea how you go about this in Sweden but maybe if you put a thread up asking how to go about it someone might know.

When you say England - might it be Scotland?

Quite a lot of Jo(h)anna(h) ROBERTSONs born 1863 +/- 1 year there!  None are Johannah Olivia as far as I can see though.

What did she call her children - she might have used family names?

Edit to say - ROBERTSON is a Scottish surname - or at least it's found there quite frequently!

In 1871 there's a family in Dundee, Angus, Scotland with a daughter Matilda who was born in Sweden - just looking for any Swedish connection.  They have another daughter Ann who is the right age for Johannah.  Unfortunately, names are often corrupted, so a Scots lass called Johannah could be Joan, Jean, Jane, Joanna, Hannah or even Anna at a push!
