Farrants of Norwich
« on: Saturday 06 February 10 01:20 GMT (UK) »
I am having trouble finding a Laura Farrants in the 1891 and 1901 Census.  Laura married John Arthur Hammond in Norwich, Norfolk in 1914.  I have the marriage certificate for this.  Laura states she is aged 25 years and her father is Alfred Farrants, a Packer.  The certificate has Lucy Farrants as a witness, possibly a sister.  Laura's birth is registered in Norwich, Norfolk in 1888.  There are a couple of other Farrants, possibly siblings, registered in the district around this time.   I have found Laura on the 1911 Census, living in Norwich Norfolk, with Alfred Charles Farrants (1886)  and Ellen Elizabeth Farrants (1890).  Alfred Charles Farrant's marriage is also registered in the Norwich district.
Any help finding Laura in the 1891 and 1901 Census would be greatly appreciated.

Seems to fit as Alfred eventually became a confectionery packer

Thank you Suz and Kerry for taking the time to look for these.  Very much appreciated.

The 2 entries for Alfred and wife Mary A seem to fit in with the 1911 entry for Laura and also some of the details on her marriage certificate.

"Tarrants" I can understand the transciption error, but "Farrauto".    Never would have found the 1891 entry in a million years.

Thanks, once again.  Kaybron

do not know if the following is of any interest
1881
RG11/1945/93/2
henry farrants age 46. b. bungay, suffolk. occ. labourer. head
anna age 36. b. ditto. wife
alfred age 18. b. chatham. occ. labourer. son
hetty age 16. b. ditto. daughter
walter age 11. b. gosport fort cleen. son
arthur age 9. b. norwich. son
amelia age 4. b. ditto. daughter
esther age 2. b. ditto. daughter
living at;cherry street,lakenham,norfolk
reg.dist;norwich

so it looks like the arthur farrants that kerry posted in 1901 could be the brother of lauras father.
if you want me to try and go further back then i will do so

Thank you wozzle,
There seemed to be a few Farrants in Norwich, but it was a bit hard for me to find Laura with her father Alfred.  I did first look at Arthur and Ellen Farrants which Kerry had posted, thinking that perhaps Laura's father's name was incorrect on her marriage certificate.  Suzard's postings are the correct family for Laura, and as you have said Arthur appears to be her uncle.

I do not need to go back further with this side of the family.  Thank you for asking.  My main area of interest is with Laura's husband, John Arthur Hammond and their children.  I also wanted to find out both of Laura's parent's names as I only had father's name from her marriage certificate.  I think I have found John and Laura Hammond's children, all born in Norwich, Norfolk.   There appears to be 4 children, born between 1914 and 1925.  My mother has a photo of 3 of the children, taken about 1924 and luckily the names are on the back of the photo.  One of their children John Herbert Hammond served in WW2 and died in Burma.  I have managed to find his details on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site.
