Find the marriage mentioned in the original post rather baffling - why would William Alexander then call himself John William Alexander adding an extra name - when he already had a brother called John???  Can't see the other children with 3 names.
Makes me wonder if something is being copied down the line without being checked. The marriage is listed as 25 Aug 1923 Church of Christ. Norwood. SA (not confirmed as the correct marriage !!)
I'm not sure this is the same William Alexander - have you any thoughts LisaaM ?

I'm beginning to think we have A)  parallel universe thing going on with similarities of names  or  B)  as you say, that there maybe unconnected information being carried forward.     Yes  -  agree that it would not be usual for a son to take the "John" name when he had a brother still living called John as well.

Maybe have "working theories"  but not sure we have made proper connections here.

Hoping Ruth comes back soon to advise what she is working from.  I'm always leery of tree information found on- line 'cause I've found stuff on my own family that was not verified and people never made corrections from what was work-in-progress to fact once documentation was found.   Once it is "out there" on the internet, often hard to make corrections too!

Yes, LisaaM he is interesting, although there is a 14 year old described as a son, the scan would indicate William was 27 at date of marriage and Mae was 27. They have been married 2 years.
Williams parents were both born in Scotland.
1930 Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio
William Mc Leod 29
Mae Mc Leod 29 Born Ohio. Czech parents
William Mc Leod 14 Born Ohio of Ohio parents

Ruth.
Have you got or seen this marriage certificate in Australia ? It could give further clues. Name the parents or family who were witnesses.  Worth you making enquiries if you have'nt got it or seen it ? Think that is crucial here to make sure William is the right person.
The SSDI ties up with Wiiliam for the date of birth so armed with the date of death - maybe that certificate would give further information on next of kin.

Best of Luck!

Found John sr. and Mary MacDonald marriage also in Cuyahoga Co.
Not seeing a John  Jr. to a  Marie marriage, however.
There is an Anna M. McLeod marrying a Norman d. MacLeod

No help with dates on this site however,  only a range by volume that is very wide.
