Inishturk?
« on: Sunday 07 February 10 10:00 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone tell me what DED the island of Inishturk (near the Island of Clare) would come under?  I'm trying to locate it on the 1911 census, but not having much luck!

TIA  :)

Hi...just went through the 1911 census..Inishturk is in the County of Mayo and under the DED of Kilmeena. Hope this helps
The surnames, which I am interested in are; Maternal side: Ryan, Kevin, Grant, Grady, Gleeson, Walsh, Dwyer, Paternal side: O' Dwyer, Woodlock, Rochford & Britton - all in Tipperary; and Kelly and Hoynes in Laois.

Ryan, Campbell, Luttrell, Grant, Grahame, Bainbridge and Brown in Queensland, Australia

Tighe in Victoria, Australia.

Grant in Philadelphia, Sullivan and Penny in New York; and Britton in Connecticut

Thanks Annie...I thought it would, but it doesn't!!  ::) ???

I am trying to find the family of FAHERTY, who lived on Inishturk (and still do), and he says the townland is called Garranty...

The townland name may be different than the name of the island but 1911 census lists Farenty family in Garranty townland in the D.E.D. of Clare Island.

Thanks :)  After all that, he reckons that none of the Faherty's/ Flaherty's O'Flaherty's there are his anyway! grrr... ::)  Thanks for the help.

Is there anywhere that lists the DED's of Ireland?  I have come across this before, when people tell me a townland they came from, and yet it's not where they are found on the census...

If you search for the parish in LDS catalogue (www.familysearch.org) under 1911 census I think the D.E.D. is listed uner the details for microfilm.
To find a parish if you don't already know it see www.thecore.com/seanruad
