Hi Pete,

Is he the one who marries as Henry Charles / Charles Henry?

I can't see a Henry in Stevenage but I do see a Charles ...

1841
HO107/437/5 20 12
Stevenage, Hertfordshire
Malling Yard

John Ansell, 40, Ag lab
Mary, 35
Caroline, 6
James, 5
William, 1
Charles, 1
Elizabeth Gilbert, 75

All born in county

Hi,thanks for that but this is where the confusion occurs,Henry born qtr ending Mar 1839,Hitchin 6  492 and Charles born qtr ending Mar 1840 Hitchin 6  552 are 2 different persons.I have found Charles in the 1841 and 1851 and have just found Henry in the 1861 or could this be Charles changing his name? as he does not appear in the 1861.The plot thickens. 8)

I thought they might be the same (if yours is the one who marries first an Alice and then an Elizabeth) because I can't see them simultaneously on the censuses, and there is a death registration for a Henry in Mar 1839.

Also, Henry is Henry C in 1881 and I found these marriages:

Sep 1864 Edmonton 3a 220
Charles Henry or Henry Charles Mansell to possibly Alice Webb

Henry Charles Ansell to either Elizabeth Millwood or Elizabeth Webb Dec 1872 Islington.
(Not sure it's his marriage but Elizabeth was born in the same place as Alice and I wondered whether they were related)

Anyway, I guess it would be safer to purchase his marriage cert then :-\
