Do you have George's death certificate.

Providing the informant knew the details, his parents names, etc should be on his death certificate. They appear on NZ deaths after 1876 or 1880, one or the other. Should also have where he was born and how long he had been in NZ.

Hello! Does anyone know anything more about Ellen Maude and Alfred Shurstrom?
Alfred's father was married to my grandfather's grandmother. My dad has two letters that Alfred wrote to his father. Is almost certain that it is the same person.

Am grateful for all the help I can get.

Have now found out that George Ebden, his siblings and Mother came out to NZ under the name of Row after Susann was widowed and re-married to Simon Row.
They travelled on the ship "Tyne" in 1841.
The Ebden children took their father's name after settling.
They were originally from Thorncombe, Devon.

Hi Marie, according NZ Births, Death and Marriages site, Alfred died in 1963, there is also a Nellie Eliza, died 1950 aged 46, no entry for her birth.
The only other Google result I can find is for an item in a local paper at the time regarding the theft of one of his pigs, cheers, Lance

Hi Marie, I am the great grand daughter of Alfred Shurstrom and I live in NZ. I have Grand-Dad Shurstrom's walking stick. He died in 1962 aged 85 years. I remember him fondly from my childhood. I am in Sweden 1/7 July 2012 and hope to visit his place of birth (Oregrund?). We have no information about his Sweden years other than that his mother died, his father remarried when he was 12 yrs old and he went to sea. Our story begins when he arrived in NZ on the ship "Neptune". The first person he spoke to was George Ebden (born 1859). George took Alfred home for dinner where Alfred met my great grandmother and they married. There is another layer to this story best kept if you are able to make contact.

I am trying to contact Marie Lindvqist who posted a query on this page in 2010 about Alfred Shurstrom. Alfred was born in Sweden and moved to New Zealand where he married my great grandmother. I am in Sweden early July 2012 and want to find out where Alfred was born so I can visit the town.
