Where Was Independent Hill?

Hi, does anybody know where Independent Hill used to be please. All I know is it was the Parish of St Marys, in Byron Ward.

Also Virginia Street as well please, in the same Parish and ward.

There was an Independent Hill, Parish of St Mary, Byron, Nottinghamn the mid 19th Century.

The History, Gazetteer & Directory of Nottinghamshire 1885 has several references to Virginia St.

It also refers to Bath St (Colton Rd, Sneinton) and then lists both Virginia St and Independent Hill under that ref.

Thanks hanes teulu, I read the names of 1841 and 1851 census, and firstly wanted confirmation I'd read them correctly, and then hopefully a present day location. I found them two years ago and a web search then found nothing, but since you've mentioned the gazetteer I've done another search and found this site.

I think from looking at old street names and position it was somewhere off Brook St.   Would that fit in?

Was there anything on Independent Hill that you know of like a building or anything famous.  I live in Nottingham and can go to our Library tomorrow if you want and see if they have any old maps.  Do you mean Standard Hill, where the Royalists put their Standard for Charles 1? Most of the streets you mention in the St Marys area, are right in the middle of Nottingham/ I know where Bath Street is, and Standard Hill but cant remember hearing of a Independent Hill but should imagine its somewhere near the Castle/ Dont know if you have been to Nottingham but there are not many hills around lol

Wright's Directory of Nottingham 1915-16 refers to "Independent Hill (27 Brook St) By No Thoroughfare". ("By" = abbvn for Byron).
There's also reference to a pub "Three Sacks" at 29 Brook St. There are also 2 coal merchants listed for 17 and 19 Independent Hill.

Thanks everybody. I do live in Nottingham, but am finding it hard to get down to the records office at the moment, hence asking on here. It looks like with Brook St. and Bath St. It could have been part of the St Anns clearance or even earlier for the offices in the area.

Since posting I googled Brook St, Nottingham and noticed the development that had gone on. I also noticed a few street names that had cropped up when searching Wright's Directory.

In Wright's, listed under Brook St, are Beck St, Cowan St, Corn St, Parrot's Place, Freeman St, Independendent Hill, Virginia St, Nile Row and Nile St - in that order.       

The google map continues to show Beck St with Brook St running off it. Cowan St then runs off to the left and much further along Nile St runs off to the right. Those that came in between appear to be history.
