Having obtained details of some of my family from the 1911 census, it shows
that most of them lost children at birth or after, one family lost twelve

As still born's did not have to be registered, there would be no birth record  or death records. Manchester burial site does list children who died at birth but there is nothing to say yours are on there site and might be buried in Private cemeteries like ST Joesph's Moston.

thanks migky, I have seen the odd one or two on m/cr burial records, is there
any way of finding church yard burials?have you any advice of finding
children's graves that were born alive but died hours or days later, but the
family could not afford to pay for the funeral.

thanks

Stillborn children are registered.

You need to be next of kin to get copies of their birth/death certificates.  You will also need to know the date of death.  Apply to the Registrar's Office just as you would for any certificate but you need to fill in a special form.
