Bliss/Bless
« on: Friday 18 March 05 12:09 GMT (UK) »
Has anyone got family links to people with this name? There are signs that Bliss (often written Bless) families lived around Newtown going back to 18th century, probably earlier. Offspring came out of Wales and settled Shropshire and Black Country in 19thC. I have theory they descend from Norman de Blez family of Stoke Bliss, who were charged with castle-guard at Radnor Castle in the 13th c.  Tom Bliss

In the 1861 Montgomeryshire census the name BLISS appears 3 times - 76 years old Martha Bliss and her 25 year old son Richard living in the parish of Bettws, and there is a 26 year old Elizabeth Bliss who is a servant in Llanfechan.

The 1851 Montgomeryshire census shows a 23 year old Ann Bliss, a servant in Aberhafesp.

Also, there is a Bliss family living in Tylwyd, Tregynon - Pryce Bliss age 28 years, wife Mary age 37 and children Thomas 6, Jane 3 and Pryce 2.

In Berriew, there is an Edward Bless, a 74 year old widower.

Hi there, the info from the family search site is my tree. I've not got any further back for several years, but feel there must be a connection with David & Pryce Bliss as they both come from Llanllwchairn and they seem to be the only Bliss family in Wales! I'd be very interested to hear if anyone can find a connection between the two and if anyone can shed further light on their ancestry. Thanks!

Hi lleansidhe

A very warm welcome to Rootschat - I hope you enjoy the site, and gets lots of help with your family history.

Could you post the details that you have for your BLISS family.  Have you found them on any of the census returns yet?

Post as much information as you can and I will see what I can find out for you.

Jan :)
