Hi

Henry/Harry Ellingford.
We have him on the 1891 census ( Rottingdean Sussex)  England, age 10 at the Brighton Parochial School,an inmate.

The next time he his found is in Canada.
From his Attestion Paper we know he sometime applied for Canadian Citizenship. Also he had served in the Canadian Army from1912 for 3 years..He signed the Attestion Paper Oct 29 1915 .He named his sister in Brighton,Sussex,England as next of kin.
We also know he died in France 8 Jan 1917.

We dont know if he came to Canada as a "Home Child" or emigrated

With be really grateful for any help

I think he may have emigrated as Hy Ellingford age 15 to Halifax NS Canada on 25 March 1897 from LIverpool aboard the "LABRADOR".

He is listed as a labourer but on a page with lots of other children of simliar and much younger age.

If it is him,he should appear on the 1901 census in Canada?

Here's a link to the Home Children Database at Library and Archives Canada.

They have him down as Hy Ellingwood in the database.  He came with the Fegan Boys Scheme.

Great Omega!

You can also order his full military file from Library and Archives Canada.  They can have alot of information in and since he died in the War you can find out exactly how and what he was doing.

I think you may already have these 2 sites but I will post them anyway

www.canadiangreatwarproject.com
Private Harry Ellingford
Reg.# 133064
Canadian Infantry, 73rd Battalion, "C" Company, No. 9 Platoon
Death: January 8, 1917
Buried at Cabaret - Rouge British Cemetery, France
Write up has him as son of Mrs. Ann Ellingford, Brighton, Sussex, England

www.collectionscanada.gc.ca
Attestation papers available to view at this site and you can order his entire military file as well which could have more information. You pay for the number of pages in the file. The attestation papers show that he enlisted Oct. 29, 1915 in Montreal, Quebec.

www.automatedgenealogy.com
You can check the 1901, 1906 and 1911 Census here for free.

I would order his military file and see what information it contains.
