Newspaper look up please
« on: Thursday 11 February 10 16:44 GMT (UK) »
Would anybody be able to have a look in old newspapers to see if there is a death notice or obituary for two people.

Their deatils are David Maltman who died 26th April 1940 and his wife Susanna who died 9th February 1949.  David is from Scotland and Susannah from England.

I believe they are buried in High Wood Cemetery, High River, Alberta.

Any help with this would be much appreciated.

Betty

You can search (scanned, not name indexed) many newspapers from Alberta online here:
http://www.ourfutureourpast.ca/
There are some for the High River Times, I had a quick look in 1949 but didn't see a mention of Susanna in the 12th Feb or 19th Feb papers; it's not set out like a modern newspaper so perhaps I missed her (or although they were buried in High River they were living elsewhere by the time they died).  Unfortunately they don't seem to cover the period of David's death at the moment.

http://www.automatedgenealogy.com/census06/
  - shows D. Maltman and Susanne in the area in 1906.
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/
 - shows them as "Waltman".
The area that they are in - "18, 19 in ranges 1, 2, 3 west of the 5th M", is actually a bit west of High River proper, I think.

Thank you so much for giving me these sites.  I have the census sites but not the newspaper one.

I am going to have fun looking through it even if I don't find what I am looking for.

Thanks for your time.

Betty

The 1916 prairie census shows this couple living 6th Street High River.  Emmigration year 1903
David 55, Scotland, Coal merchant
Susanna 53, England
also at that address is a lodger Curtis A. Jones, 25, b. U.S., buttermaker

Thanks for looking up the 1916 census for me.

David certainly changed his profession throughout his life.

Thanks
