Jessie Hay - (Farquhar) - where buried?
« on: Thursday 11 February 10 23:34 GMT (UK) »
Hello all,

Very first post here - so sorry for any errors.

I am researching the family tree of my son in law.  And his GGG Grandmother died in 1865 - prior to the family immigrating to Australia.  She was Jessie HAY (Farquahar).  She died at Greenskairs, Gamrie according to death Register - where would she have been buried and would anyone be able to do look up please?

Thanks in advance.

The most likely place is Gamrie kirkyard http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ7962 which is about a mile from Greenskares.

It's possible that she was buried in the old St John's Kirkyard http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NJ7964 but the MI index at http://www.abdnet.co.uk/mi-index/ doesn't list her.

The bad news is that the burial books for Gamrie are in the care of Aberdeenshire Council, probably at Banff, and Aberdeenshire Council charges the exorbitant sum of £10 per hour[/b] just to look at the books. If the books are properly kept and well indexed it might take only a few minutes, but if they're not it could involve several hours' expensive work ploughing through the records.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Many thanks for that quick response - as we are unlikely to be able to visit - shall pass the info onto Grant (son-in-law) and leave it to him.

Thanks again
