« on: Friday 12 February 10 12:27 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for the husband's name in the marriage of Cecilia Matilda Sutton (b.1840 Dover) which took place in December 1860 at Eastry vol. 2a p.1315

Any help much appreciated!

What names come up when you click the page number?

You look for cecelia with each of the male surnames.
How old would she be and where born?

Hi

The page that comes up is a nationwide, alphabetical list so just lots of Sut...... from all across the country for that quarter. Unfortunately Ancestry (where I am looking) does not have a link to "find spouse" which it often does.

In 1861 she is living with her brother and her surname is Williams. You can find the selection of spouses easier on freebmd http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Hi Rosie

That's the one! I did go to FreeBMD first, but perhaps was doing something wrong as I could not see her husband's name their either. Maybe it's time for me to go to Specsavers?

Many thanks

Chris

Have you found it now, Chris?  If you click on Cecilia's page number on FreeBMD (i.e. 1315) one of the possible husbands is Alexander WILLIAMS.

I have just seen that Daniel (Cecilia's brother) also married a Williams just a few months earlier in Eastry. So brother and sister marry brother and sister???

Possibly Daniel's wife (Eliza) was a sister of Alexander WILLIAMS - or perhaps she was a cousin, or perhaps with a surname as common as WILLIAMS they were unrelated.  You can't know without tracing them back to their birth families.

BUT Eliza does appear to have had a brother Alexander (b abt 1840 Kent) - see the 1851 census for Castle St, Walmer at HO107/1631/572/36.
