Wintermeyer immigration
« on: Tuesday 16 February 10 14:22 GMT (UK) »
I have been trying to find the immigration of:
Joseph Wintermeyer
wife:Terrace Unknown
daughter:Grace
I don't know if the name Wintermeyer has been Americanized.
What I know is Grace was born in 1845 and arrived in U.S. at age of 7.
I know of no other children.
Grace later married Simon Ulrich abt. 1868.
Any leads would be very helpful.

Thank you,

Jim

Welcome to RootsChat Jim  :)

This isn't really answering your question but I'm wondering if this is the family in 1860:

I'm copying it as it appears - not sure whether there were really 2 different Joseph Windermiers!

New York, Lewis
Dwelling 2652

Family 3622
Joseph Windermier, 60, Farmer, value of real estate 300, born Germany
Christina (male!), 28, born Germany

added: Looking at later censuses, I think the above Joseph should probably be the son, born ca. 1833

Family 3623
Joseph Windermier, 60, Farmer, value of real estate 300, born Germany
Terrosea, 55, born Germany
Terreasa, 17, born Germany
Cresence, 13, born Germany (was wondering if this was Grace, maybe!)
Cathrin, 13, born Germany

*****

Shipping record for above family
29 July 1852 on board the Arethusa port of Departure Bremen, arrival New York

Jos Wintermaier, 50, male,  Farmer
Therese, 46, Female, wife
Joseph, 19, Male, son
Therese, 9, female, daughter
Cresseny?, 7, female, daughter
Catherine, 4, female, daughter

all hailing from Bavaria

Here's an image of the girl's name - doesn't look like any German name I've seen before

Thank you Tati,

I'm sorry my info was so vague, but it is Grace's parents I am trying to research.  I know Grace married Simon Ulrich abt 1868 in New York (town not known).  Based upon info (probably from succeeding census reports) I have in my family tree Joseph born abt 1784 and Grace born abt 1806, both in Germany.  I have no info regarding siblings for Grace.  I know Grace died 19 Apr 1924 in Rome, NY.  Some of my info may have come from her obit.
The family was probably in New York in 1860 and family 3623 is as close to a match as I have seen.  I thought if I found the manifest, some questions would be answered, but I have not been able to find any manifest that looks remotely close.  That shipping record could definitely be them but I am way off on Joseph's age.  I think you have helped me start taking down that brick wall.
Sooooooo grateful,

Jim

I meant 1794 for Joseph's birth.  I should proof read before I hit "post"

Thanks again,

Jim

Yes, I saw his age in 1880
http://www.rootschat.com/links/081w/

but ten years earlier, he seems to have been only 70 if I'm looking at the right person in Rome Ward 3, Oneida, New York

Joseph Wintermayr, 70, Labourer, value of real estate 200, value of personal estate 100, place of birth Bavaria
Theresa Wintermayr, 64, place of birth Bavaria

I don't think I saw the 1870 census report.  That looks like it qualifies the info you originally found.  They did live in Rome, Oneida, NY, but I was not sure when they located there.
I hear those bricks falling already.  Grace is my wife's g grandmother and I believe you have helped us find her gg grandparent's family.

Many, many thanks,

Jim
