The problem is that so many registers were missing or incomplete in the 1600's

I'm 10 years late here. Jonah Cheney 1686 is my 8th Great Grandfather and I can trace his tree quite well. I'm also from Northamptonshire.

I'm a Cheney descendant living in Northamptonshire. The last one with the Cheney name was my 2nd Great Grandmother Mary Anne Cheney (1874-1919) who married Frank Ives, who worked as a Shop Keeper on Adnitt Road in Northampton.
