sounds like a Military family?

I see that Wm is a 'Pensioner' in the 1881 census. Could well be military then ....

Post a query in the 'ARmed Forces' Forum and see if you can get a pointer to which records to research.   :)

Hi

Welcome to rootschat  :)

It might be worth getting one of the childrens birth certificates to get the mothers maiden name.
There is a possible birth in December qtr 1879 for Job Henry Elms, Brentford reg district which covers Twickenham reference 3a 62.

It is quite likely that he was in the army and married in Ireland

I would be very interested if our "Elms" family are related and to exchange any info you may have. I am currently looking for William Charles Elms Jr. birth info and wounder if you may be able to help. He too seems to have some connection to Twickenham. He was born at Sea. I have him on the 1901 census and he too ran a dairy farm in the area of Tottenham.

in fact the first 2 children were born in Ireland and then the next two in India as Mary A was AlSO born in ireland it would seem likely that he was posted to Ireland and they married over there.
their children's ages 19, 12, 10, 6 and 1 would suggest that either William was posted away from his family or possibly there were children born in between these years who did not survive (other than that they may just have had the children as shown in 1881)
