Speechley Ralph
« on: Monday 22 February 10 22:04 GMT (UK) »
Hello I wonder if any kind person could help me. I have a Ralph Speechley married to Sarah Blackwell in 1731 in Orton Longville. I have found children from 1750 to 1761 born in Yaxley but I dont think this could be as Sarah would have been 50 when she had the last child. I was hoping if some body could find any children from 1731 from when they were married possibley in Orton Longville or Yaxley. I have also found a William Speechley born nr Peterborough bp 1735 of Ralph Speechley a butcher and grazier of Orton Longville and his wife Sarah Blackwell, but I have a William bp 1757 yaxley also of Ralph and Sarah is it possible that he had two sons William it doesn't seem right to me
Thank you
Sheila

I can see only one marriage of  a Ralph Speechley in Hunts Marriage Index - that in 1731. Yet it looks as though there might have been a second marriage c1750. These parishes are close to Northants and Cambs, so I wonder if there might have been a marriage there.  There's a 1749 member submission marriage on the IGI in Whittlesey, Cambs, which is only six miles from Yaxley, so might be worth checking out.

If a child died a later child of the same parents was often given the same name. But I can't see a burial of a William 1735-57, which makes me wonder again if these are two separate couples

I can't see that Hunts FHS has transcripts of either Yaxley or Orton Longueville available, but both parish registers have been filmed by the LDs so are available to order and view from your nearest LDS Family History Centre, or at Huntingdon Records Office (as you live in Cambridge I'd check at Cambridge Records Office first)

Thank you David, the William 1735 died in 1919 he was a horticulturist head gardener to the 3rd duke of Portand. The Biography states he was the son of Ralph and Sarah Blackwell. Ralph being a Butcher and Grazier. This Speechley family has a long line of Butchers
I have been to the Cambridge Records office and they haven't as yet all the records. I will try the Mormon Church.
Thank you for your help
