Can any one get me a photo please- Masterton COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 25 February 10 14:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone
For 3 years i have been tracking a Gt Gt Uncle John Waters B 1846 in Northamptonshire England and was lost to his family until now!!
I have just found out after much help on here that he lived at 31 Bentley Street, Masterton until he died 27 March 1925,the house is still there. He is buried in Archer St Cemetery QE Park, Masterton, Plan V1 Row 9 Plot JW.

So my plea is; can any one who lives nearby get a photo of both the house and the grave for me please???

If any one is able to do this BIG ask for me then let me know and I will cover any costs?

Regards
Nigel

Hi Nigel,
Sorry I cannot help with photos, but here's a couple of comments.

I recently visited the same Cemetery looking for my grandfather. I found the staff at Masterton District Council offices extremely helpful and they were able to provide me with an aerial photo with a marker on the spot where he was buried. As there was no headstone, this was very useful to find the exact spot where he was buried.
You can check their website here
http://www.mstn.govt.nz/index.php

As for the house photo, most of NZ has been photographed by Google, so normally it would be possible for you to visit Google Maps, enter 31 Bentley Street, Masterton, switch to "Street View" and instantly be able to view the house from several angles from your computer.  ;D
However, it seems that the portion of Bentley St containing No. 31 has been missed, so for this address it will be necessary for someone to visit it in person.

Hope this is some help.
Cheers

Hi John
Thanks for the info and I shall go to the site you suggest and try for the aerial / marker shot.
I had tried Google Earth and as you say it is not there and angling the camera shot /rotation etc I just couldn't get lined up on the house. So as you say I hope some one will pop up and be willing to do a 'drive by' perhaps?
Cheers again

Hi Nigel,

You could also try the "Random act of geneological kindness" website, they may have someone in the area who would be happy to do it for you.
