Emigration to Australia
« on: Thursday 25 February 10 22:01 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone please point me in the right direction for an online source of information on passenger lists covering emigration from the UK to Australia between the 1870s and the 1920s?

From the UK, you won't find much before 1890, but you could do 1890s to 1920s here:

To Australia, it depends a bit on where they ended up. I don't know of any nationwide sources.
e.g. inward passengers (unassisted) to Victoria are here:

Queensland indexes are here:

Hi

As Jorose said it might be a better idea to check where they disembarked. Very few pre 1890 passenger lists leaving UK survive.

Hi Alistquin,

Here is a also a link to later unassisted passenger and crew arrivals to New South Wales (i.e. not part of an immigration scheme).  http://mariners.records.nsw.gov.au/

If you can't find who you are looking for, let us know some details and we might be able to help out.  Shipping records vary in the amount of identifying info - some will annoyingly just list as "Mr and Mrs Smith", but some can be quite detailed.  Main info needed besides their name is age, occupation and native place.

Good Luck

Debra
