Ship's passenger list lookup please
« on: Sunday 28 February 10 15:19 GMT (UK) »
Could someone please check the details of an arrival please?

I'm looking for the arrival of Mary Ann Foreman and party in New York on 18th September 1856 on the Sarato.  The family group should include daughters Louisa (Foreman/Stanford), Eliza (Foreman) and Charlotte (Griggs), and grandchildren including Thomas Cott Griggs.  They left from Dover, but I think they would have sailed from Liverpool.

Many thanks
Bill

See www.castlegarden.org for New York arrivals pre-Ellis Island but remember that early lists give very little detail (usually name, age (not always accurate), occupation and country of origin).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks dettori - obviously I have been given the wrong information about their arrival, as the Mary Ann Foreman on the Sarato is much too young and appears to be travelling with her husband.  I can now at least discount that piece of information!

Thanks aghadowey - I've already checked Castle Garden with no luck.

There is a distinct possibility they may actually have landed in Boston but, unfortunately, the Boston Mass. database is far from complete at the present time.

I am fairly confident that they emigrated in, or about, 1856.  Oh well - back to the drawing board!   ???

In that piece on Thomas I sent, it says arrived Boston 1856 and then to Utah 1861. Alas, nothing on the Boston passenger lists either  ???

Hello Bill.

What age is Mary ? I am looking at a passenger list 1 May 1860 - SS Underwriter.

Mary Ann Foreman age 58 (Nurse) - born 1802 going to Utah from Liverpool,  with Eliza Foreman (think she is 21). Does this one sound possible ?  ???
