Fletcher - Benniworth COMPLETED
« on: Friday 05 March 10 17:34 GMT (UK) »
I did try to revive a very only thread of mine yesterday in Beginners" but I think I should but my question new.

Thomas Fletcher b. abt 1800 in Benniworth. Father Christopher Fletcher, mother Mary. I am looking for the marriage of Christopher and Mary. Mary was born in Irby abt. 1777

Can someone check this out on the Horncastle Deanery indexes as I think we have missing records on the IGI. The problem is there are several Christopher Fletcher's who married a Mary in this area about this time.

Thanks Bob...

Thomas FLETCHER bap 23 March 1800 Benniworth

3 Marriages?
28 June 1796 Burgh on Bain, Mary MARSHALL
8 May 1800 Hemingby, Mary TODD
21 May 1805 Donington on Bain, Mary CUNNINGHAM

Christopher Todd FLETCHER (born Feb 1801) and several others bap at Scamblesby seems to take care of the second couple.
Baptisms beginning at Donington in 1807 suggest the 3rd couple.  But Edward (32 in 1851) was born at Donington.  Perhaps Mary (TODD) died and Christopher remarried in Donington but wasn't noted as a widower. ???

Note: The Irby on Humber IGI batch has no baptisms at all 1767-1784.  I don't think FreeREG has anything before 1813, :(

Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Hello Geoff,
It looks like you have looked in the IGI. I have quickly come to the knowledge that the IGI is far from complete and unless you have a clear match don't trust it. This is was I did having Christopher Fletcher and Mary Marshall but this seems more and more improbable. Same as the others.
I too have found missing records from Irby upon Humber. In the various census Mary always said she was born in 'Irby'.
I need to check the Horncastle Deanery indexes published by LFHS but to send for the MF may take several weeks to get here. Hopefully I will be in the UK in May/June. I was just hoping that someone may have access to these records.
Thanks
Bob..

Hello Geoff,
It looks like you have looked in the IGI.

Only for the baptisms.

I have LFHS marriage index.

In case you decide you are interested in MARSHALL at a later date, there were only 2 MARSHALL burials at Donington 1813-60 -
22 May 1825 John MARSHALL (81)
24 April 1823 Mary MARSHALL (77)

also at Donington
10 May 1825 Christopher FLETCHER (56) .... not to be confused with
23 Dec 1823 at Scamblesby Christopher FLETCHER (56)

Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Hi Geoff,
Thanks for that you have cleared things up a bit for me. I think I will have to chip away at this one. Mary was on the 1851 census age 74 but not on the 1861 so I expected she died sometime in those 10 years. FreeBMD shows 2 possibles deaths. In 1855 and 1860 and also a Mary Ann also in 1860. No age is given. She most probably been buried in Waltham as that's where they were living on the farm. But that is not going to tell us much else.

What I guess I need is the baptism records for Irby upon Humber. The other thing is to find out who bought the farm. They are not on the 1841 Census or at least I have not found it.

The other thing I could do is to trace the other Christophe's and Mary's and see where they went if possible.

Sorry I know this is a waffle but if you or someone can have a look at a Mary Fletcher that was buried at All Saints, Waltham. Thanks for your worked.

The most likely burial seems to be
9 Nov 1852 Donington on Bain, Mary FLETCHER (76)

... perhaps -
Deaths Dec 1852
FLETCHER    Mary        Louth    7a   346

Hi Geoff, Mary was living in Waltham at that time in the Caistor district. Thats why I found the Caistor deaths and All Saint's Waltham a probability.

Hello
I have just joined RootsChat.
I'm also researching the Fletcher family but not sure yet if it's the same one as yours yet.
I have found Thomas & Mary on the 1841 Census though. Their address is shown as South Rd Waltham. Thomas is 35 and a farmer, Mary is 65 and a widow. They also have a servant Susan Dickenson 12 living with them.
Hope this helps.

Welcome to Rootschat the best FH Forum on the net. I have done a lot of work on the Fletcher's including some foot slogging in Lincolnshire. Happy to share with you but I will contact you by PM.
