Your James (as James Mason) appears to be working at Gamrie, Banff in 1851.

There is this James Mason born 1812 Fordoun - parents are William and Helen Kerr found at the Hugh Wallis sight. The thing that draws me to this one is, the only other Mason male parent in this batch is an Alexander Mason.

Regards,
Nel

Hello Lynda. Thanks for the offer.Unfortunately I dont have a date of birth. The only info I have is the death cert. of their son James Masson (Mason) who died in 1875. The informant was James MASON, Son. He gave the names of his grandparents as James Mason and Helen Caird. I know this is a long shot, but would be very greatful for any info that may help solve this "mystery". This fellow has proved a real brick wall for me.!!!

Hello Nel. Thanks for all the info. The Younger James did marry Barbara (Taylor) sometime after the birth of their son Alex. In 1841 cencus Barbara and young Alex are with a group who I think are her family.  I am beginning to wonder if James got the names of his gparents wrong on his father's death cert.!

I have just had a look at my tree and there is not a Helen Caird.  However on Scotlands people there are 7 listed between 1790 and 1820. Have not gotenough credits to search tonight.  My Cairds are from Dunnoter, Glenberviie.  Descendants of John Caird and Elspet Burness.

Will try and help later in the week..

I am still chasing this fellow. Not a great deal of joy, although I have found a couple of things that make me think James jnr got his grandparents names wrong on his fathers death cert. Found on IGI: Elizabeth Mason 1810, Helen Mason 1811, James Mason1812. All Christened in Fordoun Kincardineshire. Parents William Mason / Helen Kerr. Also found : Baptism Sept 6 1812 James Mason father William mother Helen Kerr. Whiterigs. I presume this is near Fordoun?

 Hello Lynda,
                 Still chasing this fellow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Found a George Masson b 1819 Peterhead, parents William Masson / Helen Caird. Also  marriage for William Masson / Helen Caird 1818 Peterhead. Both these were submitted entries. There was also : George Masson c 31 Oct 1819 Saint Fergus Banff. Parents William Masson / Helen CARD. This was an extracted entry. Does any of this ring a bell for you? Please don't go to any trouble. Although I have been retired for over two years I still remember what it is like to work full time!!!
