FITCHETT FAMILY - Who are they?
« on: Tuesday 09 March 10 07:31 GMT (UK) »
Im looking for the children of John and Mary Fitchett

John was born in 1789 in Coton in the Elms Derbyshire but Im putting the request in Staffordshire because the family spent most of their time in Wolverhampton,

I am directly related through their son John.

I want to find who the other members of the family are and how long the family stayed on the Shrophire Union Canal.

Thanks in advance  ;D Ted

I can't find any records for this family prior to 1841.  I did go through the marriages on FreeBMD  and of course found Mary in March 1/4 1841, there is also one for a Mary in Litchfield in March 1/4 1840.
We know from the 1841 census that John and Mary were in Staffs at least from 1821 when Samuel was born.
The only way to find out if mary was a child of theirs is to order the cert but that is rather an expensive exercise.
Good luck with the hunt.

The marriage certificate probably wouldnt help as they sometimes didnt list fathers names on the earlier ones

There is a baptism on Wolverhampton Archives website

3 Aug 1845 Samuel son of Samuel & Mary SANDERS Horsley Fields Boatman

Bonus!

St Peters 26 Mar 1841 Samuel Sanders full b x Boatman Wolverhampton Wm.Sanders Boatman & Mary Fitchett full s x Wolverhampton J.Fitchett Boatman

and, of course Frances is actually a Francis (note the age column) and there are a whole bunch of children to Francis/Frank and Eliza Fitchett baptised in Wolverhampton, as their father prgresses from boatman to railway porter.

I love it when a plan comes together  ;D

It might be worth checking out the spelling Finchett too as there are several on the Wolverhampton Archive site who might tie in (there again they may not lol!)
