WOII S D Vickers RAF (Service No.590124)
« on: Tuesday 09 March 10 15:02 GMT (UK) »
Hello

I am doing some research into a Sidney Richard Vickers.

Vickers was captured by the Japanese and following the end of the Second World War in the Far East he was awarded the OBE (Military). I have found his London Gazette notice for the award.

His rank was Warrant Officer II and his RAF Service Number 590124. It appears that he came from the Kent area.

If you are able assist please let me know.

Many thanks

Sorry, I have deleted my original message as I hadn't read your information properly and had the wrong Service.

The Innsworth address won't do you much good as they moved some time ago:

The problem is that I am not related to WOII Vickers so cannot request his service records. However, there might be someone researching RAF Far East POWs and might have come across him.

Just a quick comment.  The RAF dont have WO II.  We have Flight Sergearnt and Warrant officer as shown in the London Gazette...  Might be worth you trying to contact a gentleman called Graham Pitchfork who wrote Men behind the medals as he might have researched WO Vickers at some point.
