Royal Field Artillery Records
« on: Tuesday 09 March 10 19:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am new to Rootschat and am looking for some assistance in tracing my grandfather Ernest John Spencer's military records with the RFA.
I recently found his WW1 enlistment papers on Ancestry. On these he states that he had previously served 8 and a half years with the RFA, T.X. this must have been between 1901 and 1909 due to other records I have for his whereabouts. Some or all of this service must have been in the Salisbury/Wiltshire area as it was in this area he met his wife my grandmother who was from Woodford , Wiltshire. Unfortunately I have no other information relating to this service. Any advice or pointers would be much appreciated. His WW! service was with the RH & RFA.

Thanks

Stephen

Hello Steven and welcome to Rootschat,

The TX may be shorthand for Time Expired.

I'm clueless when it comes to searching for pre-WW1 service records, so I'll take the easy way out and post the link to researching pre-WW1 service published by the National Archives.

Hi Phil,

Many thanks for your reply, i'll start with this link and see where it leads. I realise that it's not going to be easy with the little information I have to go on.
