Jones / Williams of Wales
« on: Wednesday 10 March 10 06:37 GMT (UK) »
Hi from Australia !!
I am seeking info re; Robert Jones b. Hollywell Flintshire, c. 1823 who married Emma Williams b.1826 Welshpool, Montgomeryshire at Liverpool Lancashire in 1847 - thence moving to Blakenhall, Wolverhampton, being a bricklayer until around 1884 - when his son Thomas jones b.1861 and wife
Phoebe b. 1856 and son Frederick b.1883 emmigrated to Kew, Melbourne, Australia.
Robert (I think) and Emma came to Aus in October 1885,  Emma died at Kew in 1906, Thomas died at Kew in 1905, I think Robert may have returned to Wales because I havent found a conclusive death
record here in Aus, and I gotta know `cause he was my great grandfather!
I would like ifno about the Jones families of Hollywell, and the Williams of welshpool, - if anyone can help

Jones / Williams / Birch from N.Wales and Wolverhampton,..Musson / Wightman / Howard /  from Leicestershire and London
Connelly / Ord from Ireland and London

Hi David,
Could you post the details and ref from the 1851 census please as Robert Jones isn't the most unusual name in North Wales  ;)

Hi Maidmarion
Sorry I dont have that sort of info, just what I`ve gathered from various sources and a fair bit of sleuthing - mainly IGI - Family Search etc. I`m not in Ancestry or any of the others, but I realise that
Robert Jones was the son of Robert Jones, who may well have been the son of ROBERT jONES....
AAAARRRGHHH !!!.....so I may have to join up sometime
Cheers

Hi Maidmarion,
1851 details incorrect, my Joneses lived in (27) Cobden st S. Wolverhampton (Blakenhall) -as far as I know, with Elizabeth b. Staffs 1848, Mary Ann b. Staffs 1850, and Alfred b. Staffs 1853 - according to 1861 Census. Elizabeth m. Richard Owen on 22 April 1867 #10116 - her adress given as Franchise st.
- Possible she died at Heath Town Wolv. 25 Oct. 1900. Mary Ann disappeared (seeking info) and  Alfred m. Elizabeth (?) and was living at  Wigston Magna Leicester by 1881. Thomas my g/father,was b.1861,after the census. By 1881 family lived at 44 Cross st. Blakenhall. Cobden st. and Franchise st. no longer exist.  Lucy Owen would be Elizabeths daughter.

Emma JONES (WILLIAMS) to Robert Jones
marriage 4 July 1847
at Saint Nicholas, Liverpool, Lancashire

IGI Batch no. MOO5994 -1846 to 1861
Source no. 93847 to 93852
Printout no. 6902852

I dont have any more details other than this, but the actual cert. would remove the guesswork

Emma came to Kew, Melbourne Australia, in 1885 and died there in 1906 # 9616 (Digger)
Her father given as Thos. Williams, mother Sarah Jones
- she is buried with Thomas Jones d. 1905 and
Pheobe Jones nee Birch d. 1942

Thanx for your interest. :)

Hello again Mm, :D

re; 1851 Census, that is possible , Roberts age, occ. all fits, no evidence about Emma
I know nothing about movements from 1847 to 1861, other than;
Elizabeths birth record is recorded as Stafford - Staffordshire (1848)
Mary Ann Walsall - Staffordshire (1850)
Alfred  Wolverhampton - Staffordshire (1853)    by using (..) I mean approx.
So the family must have moved about a bit, these Gahagans may have been distant rels or friends.
- Interestingly, Thomas Jones future wife`s family lived at Falkland st. in 1861. their name was Birch,
Benjamin, Ellen, William, Phoebe, Helen and Mary. :-\

Hi David,
I think you may have the wrong marriage.  If they were in Staffs, why would they marry in Liverpool. ???

Do you have anything to confirm Emma was a Williams or have you come to that conclusion because this was the only Robert Jones to an Emma, marriage you found?

I think you need to confirm her maiden name before progressing.  :)
