Hi Lionel,

You've obviously done quite a bit of research in NZ, so I'm at a loss about how to help you, other than to suggest that you might consider checking the resources of the NZ Society of Genealogists, http://www.genealogy.org.nz/ who might hold submissions by BOWMAN or OGILVIE descendants such as pedigree charts, BDM certificates, etc.

If the NZSG looks promising you could contact them and pay to have your interests published in the magazine.

If you have any specific research questions about any of your Bowman's, I'm happy to help if I can.

Hi Riley, I'm lost with this lot. Somebody has put all these names on LDS site but no submitters name. Cannot find any info on James or Isabella on Scotlands BDM site. With all the funny names of the sons, I think this James guy was a practical joker. Are you in NZ?  I think I'll just have to write to all the Bowmans in the white pages in NZ and see what comes up.
regards, Lionel.

disagree completely, your Bowman relative has named his whole family with those second names and in the end you WILL thank him.   :)

Hi Lionel,

You're definitely got the right names, although the LDS entry is a fine example of why people need to include their source citations for future research. Here's some tantalising clues for you;

Probate: (Will)
Name: BOWMAN David Sealand of Papanui, Christchurch
Occ: Financial Agent
Filed: 8 May 1900

1890 Marriage
BOWMAN David Sealand to Amy Sarah TORNES

1886 Marriage
BOWMAN Robert Seeland to Sarah Phillipa PROWSE

1893 Electoral Roll (Women)
No: 12548
BOWMAN Amy Sarah
Electorate: Christchurch City
Residence: Merivale Lane
Occ: Lady

Probate: (Will)
Name: BOWMAN Amy Sarah of Christchurch
Occ: widow
Filed: 6 Feb 1945

Probate: (Will)
Name: BOWMAN Isabella of Christchurch
Occ: widow
Filed: 31 Mar 1897

1893 Electoral Roll (Women)
No: 1195
BOWMAN Isabella
Electorate: Christchurch City
Residence: Victoria Street
Occ: Household Duties

I suggest you contact Archives NZ Christchurch Office for copies of the probates.

Cheers, riley

Really well done Riley, thanks for that, gives me some incentive to carry on.
I found out that James Ogilvie Bowman married Ellen Eliz McKee. She died in 1921.
David Sealand Bowman died in May 1900 at Bligh's Road Papanui. There is a David Bowman married to Eliz Jane Fisher in 1885 and a John Bowman married Maggie Styles in 1884 at Williamstown Vic. Can't be sure of those two marriages.
There is a book at the Christchurch library called the Life of Alice Maud Bowman by Shirley Nichols (Ms.167) but I don't know if she is the same Alice.
regards, Lionel.

Hi Lionel,

Have you sighted "Life of Alice Maud Bowman" to eliminate or confirm her connection to your line? I can check with my local library or National Library for a copy if you want.

Hi Riley, no I'm in Western Australia but all I know is that in Mum's notes she said Alexander had a sister who was a nurse with auburn hair. The age of Alice Maud agrees with the ages of children on Isabella's death certificate but the LDS page shows Alice's parents as James & Isabell rather than Isabella but born Canterbury Christchurch as were all the brothers. Alexander is my grandfather but he divorced grandma Lorna Christina Brooks when Mum was young. It is strange that whoever lodged details with LDS never included Alexander in the list.
If it's not too much trouble to check Alice out at the library I would really appreciate it.
regards, Lionel.

Isabel , Isabella,  same thing, and I will lay odds that Alice is the subject of the book.

Good work again Riley.
